“Renegades of Funk”

This isn’t a music video so much as it is two best friends messing around with a new toy. In this case, the toy was my new Sony HD camera back in 2006 (I’ve since switched to Panasonic). Shot mostly in my driveway and edited by my good friend Justin Rowell, this is still a classic that makes me turn red in the face when my friends insist on showing it at parties. Enjoy the site of my non-butt shaking in my jeans.

Mike Judge is a creative mind who is completely tapped into his generation. His brand of irreverent humor has made him a household name with very few endeavors under his belt. Office Space has become a staple (pun intended and well meant) for the working class in a way that very few films ever achieve. Idiocracy is slowly gathering a huge cult following for its brilliantly sharp social satire and unique vision of the future. But of course none of this would have been possible if not for the original inspiration that gave Judge the clout to realize his other projects: Beavis and Butt-head.

Everyone who grew up with these guys knows that parents and conservative media whores were in an uproar over this show. The language barriers it helped break down in terms of what’s acceptable on cable programming, the satirical wit the show applied liberally (even at the joking expense of its own network), and just the sheer hilarity of it all makes them a memorable addition to our childhood pastime.

And now, in 2011, when the timing could not possibly be any better, Mike Judge and MTV are bringing back these two giggling chockleheads for more. I couldn’t be more excited. Considering the current state of what has become popular TV and the cultural cesspool we all dwell in on a daily basis, Beavis and Butt-head is primed to be just as prescient now as it was then, if not more so. I can’t wait. New episodes begin on October 27!

Trailer Trash: Real Steel

They can’t fool me. This is Rock Em Sock Em Robots: The Movie. Pure and simple.

That being said, more ridiculous concepts have made for entertaining movies. However, given the track record of director Shawn Levy, this is probably gonna suck. He does well with character-driven comedies like Date Night, but his special effects pictures tend to lose me. Besides, it doesn’t look like they missed a cliche with this one. Can you guess the ending?

Detroit A-List Results

Lightcraft Entertainment is in third place on the Detroit A-List for Best Wedding Videography. I want to thank everyone who lent their support for me on the last by casting their vote and spreading the word. True, it’s not first place, but it’s still two places higher than last year, and for a one-man operation, that’s not bad!

Trailer Trash: Battleship

A movie based on the classic board game we played when we were kids. Are you kidding me?

First of all, let me start out by saying that this trailer is nothing like what I expected, but then again… what the hell was I supposed to expect? How do you create a feature length film based on a board game that’s about nothing except blowing shit up? Michael Bay does it every year, I guess… but hasn’t the alien stuff been done to death? First of all, this trailer ruins what could’ve been a massive surprise: You go to see a movie based on Battleship and suddenly alien spaceships rise out of the water?! That’ll actually catch you off guard! Instead, this movie takes its ace from one hole and shoves it up another.
